A hardshell case is beneficial because the case is made of durable plastic or metal, and can absorb hundreds of pounds of pressure. They can also make the different for your musical instrument if it is dropped from a height, or even if dropped into water as some of the are waterproof (also beneficial if you are in an area prone to rainfall). In addition, a hardshell case is not as easily damaged as the softer cases which some purchase. They are able to take scratches and dents and in most cases do not reveal these to the naked eye.
